2010
LIBRARY GARDENS PROJECT
| This
spring, I was asked by the staff of the Crawford Memorial Library to do
some garden designs. They wanted to get a grant from the Sullivan
Renaissance and be in the competition to win prize money. I was very
happy to give many volunteer hours towards creating gardens that library
patrons, town residents and visitors would enjoy seeing. We won the 2nd
prize ($2000.00) out of 14 competitors in our category, plus one of four
$1000.00 prizes for "Showing of the Flowers" from all
competitors in all categories! The awards ceremony took place in August
and I was so proud of all that our small group of volunteers
accomplished. I took lots of photos from start to finish...what a
difference! Here are just a few... |

There
were some shrubs and some hosta and that was it...

I designed new garden beds
along the sidewalk and along both sides of the front walkway leading to the
front steps.

| One of the original
drawings I did that was submitted for the grant. I did designs for the
front gardens, the back door entrance ramp, a picnic table area, a rain
barrel garden and a children's rock garden |

dozen flat rocks for children to paint their names and pictures on and
the rocks were arranged among colorful annual flowers. |

a large flat rock from one of my own garden walls, I painted a sign for the

During
the spring and summer, I did some garden design consultations and my
clients were all very happy with the plans I came up with. Garden design
is my passion and I hope to be doing it for many more years.
This
year, I also started a Facebook group, "The Smallwood NY Garden
Club" and we have a great group of fun ladies who get together for
BBQs at our houses and lunches at local restaurants.
